PDFResum
Climate variability can drive biotic homogenization in arid ecosystems. Using 15 years of rodent monitoring in a grassland and a shrubland in the Chihuahuan Desert, we 1) evaluated the change in temporal β-diversity, and 2) analyzed the relationship between β-diversity of rodent communities and climatic conditions. The β-diversity was calculated using the total dissimilarity partitioning method and we performed multiple regression on distance matrices. The results showed a slight decrease in the temporal beta diversity of rodents in the grassland, this could indicate the beginning of biotic homogenization. Changes in rodent β-diversity were related to changes in the difference in precipitation. Long-term temporal studies are therefore required to fully understand the relationships between climate and community dynamics in arid zones.Cita
